There are many benefits to plastic cladding and there is also a whole host of uses for it in domestic or commercial buildings. But what exactly is PVC cladding? And what is it used for?
Plastic cladding is commonly used when remodelling a kitchen or a bathroom, and can also provide the best waterproofing solutions in the commercial or industrial sectors. The word ‘cladding;’ describes the covering of one material with another. Cladding can be used in metal works, fibre optics or even nuclear fuel.
In the home or workplace, Plastic cladding is used for bathroom ceilings and kitchen ceilings, and for waterproofing walls. It makes a very good alternative to tiling; made from high quality PVC, they can be installed very easily using a tongue and groove system. For walls and ceilings, the interlocking cladding can create a seamless finish and can often be completed much faster than tiles.
Plastic cladding is becoming a popular choice for homeowners and property developers as there is no grouting required during application making it a speedy process, and it is also completely waterproof. Other benefits of choosing plastic cladding include:
and easy to clean (hygienic and ideal for homes or workplaces).
porous and free from mould.
– can be used in any room (wet or dry areas).
and can provide rooms with sound proofing.
for insulation and waterproof.
- Ideal for both walls and ceilings and no grouting required.
The Warmer Alternative to Tiles

Unlike tiling or wallpapering your bathroom, wall cladding can be installed with next to no fuss and in a significantly shorter time so that you can enjoy using the bathroom of your dreams; sooner.

PVC Bathroom wall panels will make your bathroom beautiful as well as providing a virtually maintenance free solution. With conventional tiled bathrooms, there is a need to re-grout the tiles often as discolouring occurs making the grout look tired and dirty. Wall panels only require a simple wipe over to have them gleaming again and keep your bathroom looking lovely and new. You can choose from a variety of styles and colours so that your bathroom wall panels will blend in perfectly with the other decorative factors of your bathroom.
In days gone by bathroom wall panels were made of wood and many people installed these in their homes. The trouble is that wood requires a lot of maintenance to prevent it from rotting and decomposing. This can be a lot of work rubbing down surfaces and re-painting. Wood also attracts dirt and can be a real dirt trap which can be very unhygienic. It can also attract insects.
PVC or plastic bathroom wall panels do not suffer from the majority of these problems. Because it has a smooth surface rather than a grainy one, dirt does not become ingrained when using PVC. Any surface dust can be easily removed with a water pressure wash. It is not susceptible to water retention which can cause damp like wood is and it will never rot or attract insects. This makes them very hygienic for you and your family. They do not need regular cleaning and if they do require a clean this is easily achieved with a damp cloth and some normal household detergent.
When it comes to installing bathroom wall panels, plastic panels win the day here too. They are very lightweight and very easy to install. The average do it yourself person will have no trouble installing PVC panels. If you did decide to get professional help with this the cost should be quite low as the work required is not as much as with wooden panels. The cost of the plastic panels will be less than the wood panels as well.
These days you can get your plastic bathroom wall panels in a variety of finishes. It is possible to get decorative styles such as Tiled, Sparkle, abstract, marble and others too. There is also a full range of colours to choose from so that it is easy to match up with your existing colour scheme. It makes sense to protect your bathroom and make it look beautiful with PVC bathroom wall panels. At Celplas we have a great range of panels to suit your bathroom and your pocket. Installing bathroom cladding is super easy. So easy that it doesn’t really deserve it’s own blog post but here at Celplas we want to make sure you have everything you need to get the bathroom you want. Wall panelling is a fantastic feature to take advantage of and the wide variety of styles means it works in almost any interior scheme. The only thing that is holding you back is your imagination!
So, first steps first. Ensure all the surfaces you’re going to put the Bathroom cladding on are clean. You don’t need to go all Rambo on it and give it a deep clean, but you’ll want to make sure that there’s no dust or anything that could compromise the quality of your new cladding panels. It’s also just a really good way of making sure there won’t be any problems later on after you’ve finished.
Next step, plan and measure where the cladding will go. For most walls you’ll only have to measure width in order to get an actual measurement, as a lot of ceilings don’t go over the length of a cladding panel. All you have to do is divide the width of the wall by the width of the panels you want to install.
So in this pretend scenario, we’ve measured one wall and found it to have a width of 4000mm, while the other wall has a width of 4500mm. Pretty convenient, huh?
So when you’ve got your measurements, you’ll want to add those figures together and round them up to the nearest whole. In our example, that would be 8500mm. If you’re cladding the entire room, you’ll want to double that figure to include the other two walls. So, knowing that our walls add up to 17000mm, all we need to do is divide that number by the width of our panel, which we said earlier was 250mm.
17000mm ÷ 250mm = 68 panels
If it doesn’t divide up as neatly as ours did and does go a little bit over, it’s probably better to round that number up to the nearest whole to ensure that you have enough leftover cladding for your project.
So great! We’ve got the walls measured, we know how many panels we need, now we’ve just got to install the cladding!
Now before you ordered the panels, you might have requested some of our free samples. If you did, you might be intimidated if it’s your first time. Looking at the panels you wouldn’t immediately know how to properly install the bathroom cladding, but don’t worry; like we said, it’s easy.
Going back to before when we said you might have some leftover cladding. All of our PVC cladding can be cut with a basic handsaw or utility knife. When using any form of sharp blade, make sure you cut at a shallow angle, down and away from you. It’ll help you create a nice smooth edge that should line up nicely when installed. If you still have those samples, you can practise a bit to get a feel for it. Just be sure to keep your hands away from the blade and hold the panelling safely and securely.
If your walls have been cleaned properly and are relatively flat, your wall cladding can be glued straight onto the surface. Simply apply the adhesive to the wall or the back of the panel, whichever is easiest for you. Then firmly push the sheet against the wall to allow it to bond with the wall, making sure to follow the directions for the adhesive. Make sure you’ve given it a good pat down from top to bottom to make sure that everything is properly secured.
With your brand new hygienic wall cladding panels installed, your bathroom/kitchen won’t need as much attention as before. Our panels make it super easy to keep clean with the least amount of effort. Panels can be simply washed down with some warm, soapy water and a soft, clean cloth which we recommend doing once a week.
We told you it was easy. So easy in fact, you’ll be tempted to use it all over the house!
Did you give it a go? If you took some before and after photos, we’d love to feature them on our social media! Simply email them to us, along with a short description of some of the work you did, to firstname.lastname@example.org
Whether you’re a first time DIY-er, or you’ve been fixing stuff around the house since you could first hold a drill, it’s easy to slip-up. If you’re not careful then before you know it, both your time and money could vanish like a puff of smoke. Some faults can be fixed easily enough, but it’s better to know ahead of time which mistakes you can avoid. We’ve put together this handy list of top 5 common DIY mistakes that everyone should know.
Make your spirit level your spirit animal
Your spirit level should be your number one best friend when you’re thinking about putting up shelves. You might think you’re got the steadiest hands and the keenest eyes, but you’ll never be more accurate than a bubble in water. And few things will irritate you more than a slanted shelf. It will save you a lot of time and energy later on when you’re not having to wonder why all your books slide off the shelves.
Failing to plan is planning to fail
Putting up cladding can make your bathroom or kitchen look like a million pounds, but bear in mind that sooner or later, you’re going to need access to the pipes to fix them. If you’ve sprung a leak you’re not going to want to tear down the walls, so the best way to avoid turning your home into an indoor water park is to think ahead and plan one removable panel that gives you access easily.
If you do want an indoor water park
We were joking about the water park, but you’ve have no idea how many times unsuspecting people forget to turn off the water before they start their DIY adventure. Forgetting to turn off the water can lead to all sorts of issues, including damaged pipes or water damage. So make sure you know where the primary valve location is before you start anything and turn that water off! You’ll save time and money in the long run.
Quality isn’t expensive, it’s priceless
You can’t fake quality any more than you can fake a good meal. You wouldn’t go to a restaurant if the ingredients were cheap, so why would you want to use cheap materials for your renovation? It doesn’t take long to do some research and find out which tools and materials you need to complete your dream project. That’s not to say you shouldn’t take your time and compare prices, but make sure you’re getting the quality you’re paying for. If in doubt, ask for samples.
Blowing your budget
The whole point of doing DIY is to save yourself some money. Don’t run yourself into ruin just to match that aesthetic you once saw on Pinterest. You’ll regret it when you’ve no more money halfway through your project and you end up with a bathroom that reminds you of garbage truck. If you can, plan to have over 30% more money than your budget plans for. That way if you do run into any issues, you’ll have a little extra money to save you.
